Sissel-Jo Reid Gazan (born December 20, 1973 in Aarhus , Denmark ) is a Danish writer and biologist . Her work includes novels , science and detective novels as well as children's literature .

Sissel-Jo Gazan is the daughter of the journalist Paul Gazan and the author and lecturer Janne Hejgaard .

Life

Sissel-Jo Gazan grew up in Aarhus and graduated from Marselisborg Gymnasium in 1992. In 1995 her debut novel Når man kysser i august was published by Klim Verlag in Denmark . Et barn for sig followed in 1997 . In the same year she began her biology studies with a focus on the evolution of birds at the University of Copenhagen , which she successfully completed in 2004.

In 2005 she moved to Germany and settled in Berlin . In 2008 the science crime novel Dinosaurens Fjer ( Gyldendal Verlag ) was published, with which she made her breakthrough as a writer in Denmark. Dinosaurens Fjer , German title: Dinosaurierfedern , has been published in 16 countries including Germany, France, Spain, England and the USA. In 2013, NPR , The Washington Post , book critics Maureen Corrigan and Tom Nolan of The Wall Street Journal named dinosaur feathers one of the best detective novels of the year. The Financial Times described the novel as "outrageously entertaining". In the same year the novel Svalens Graf - an independent sequel to dinosaur feathers - was published by Gyldendal Verlag. In 2015, Vi elsker Berlin (We love Berlin) was published - a very personal travel guide for Danes about Berlin in PolitikenVerlag . In 2017 the novel Blækhat (Lindhardt and Ringhof Verlag) was published, which was published in 2019 by dtv-Verlag in Germany under the title What you should know about with . A book about growing up, family secrets and street art in Aarhus in the 1980s. In the same year the Danish publisher Gyldendal Sissel-Jo brought out Gazan's first children's book, Anton, Hugo og guldhesten .

Sissel-Jo Gazan is currently working on her new novel, which will be released in Denmark in October 2020.

She lives with her three children in Berlin-Mitte.
