Ernestine Washington
Sister Ernestine B. Washington (born 1914 in Arkansas , † July 5, 1983 in Chula Vista , California ) was an American gospel singer .

Sister Ernestine Washington grew up in Arkansas and initially sang in her husband's church in Brooklyn , the Washington Temple COGIC From the mid-1940s to the 1950s, he made a series of recordings with piano accompaniment, mostly for those in Newark (New Jersey ) Resident record labels Arco, Regis, and Manor Records by Irving Berman ; famous songs were "Just Make It In" and "There's Not a Friend".
On January 1, 1946 she recorded for Jubilee Records with Bunk Johnson's jazz band (inter alia "God's Amazing Grace" (Melodisc, S3865) and "Does Jesus Care"); however, the records were not particularly successful. In addition, recordings with vocal accompaniment were made by groups such as The Dixie Hummingbirds ("Savior Don't Pass me By" / "If I Could Just Make It In", 1945), The Heavenly Gospel Singers and The Southern Sons , as well as by her husband, Rev Frederick Washington. Her repertoire mostly consisted of gospel standards like "My Record Will Be There", "Savior Don't Pass Me By", "Where Could I Go But to the Lord", "Jesus Prayed for You and I". She was influenced by the style of the Roberta Martin Singers, Allmusic compares her powerful shouter vocals with Mahalia Jackson .
