Jim Robinson , and Big Jim Robinson (* 25. December 1892 in Deer Range, Plaquemines Parish , Louisiana as Nathan Robinson , † 4. May 1976 in New Orleans ), was an American New Orleans jazz - trombone .

Jim Robinson was a veteran of New Orleans jazz known for his deep, rugged " tailgate " style. Robinson came to New Orleans as a teenager and began playing professionally when he was twenty. In the 1920s he made recordings with the Sam Morgan Jazz Band and became a member of the early New Orleans jazz bands of Bunk Johnson and George Lewis . In his later years he led his own band and performed regularly at the Preservation Hall .

Big Jim Robinson's most popular track was Ice Cream , which he recorded for American Music Records in 1940 .
