distribution

The species occurs safely in Sicily and in pure conservation breeding on the Aeolian islands Alicudi , Filicudi and Vulcano . The exact delimitation of the distribution area from other subspecies is still insufficiently known.

Ruttner counts the Sicilian bee in the Carnica group. However, studies show that the closest relative of the Sicilian bee is the tell bee , from which it differs in only a few characteristics. It is characterized by a high varroa tolerance , i. H. an infestation with the varroa mite remains without significant symptoms of the disease.
