Skënder Hyseni (born February 17, 1955 in Podujevo , FVR Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar politician and former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kosovo .

Life

Skënder Hyseni studied English at the University of Pristina until 1978 . He then completed short-term studies at Bloomsburg State College ( Pennsylvania , USA ) and at the University of Aberdeen ( United Kingdom ).

Hyseni's political career began with the establishment of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). After Ibrahim Rugova's election as President of the unilaterally proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, he worked on its staff and became one of its closest advisers. Hyseni was a member of the Kosovar delegation in the negotiations with the Yugoslav government on the Treaty of Rambouillet on the eve of the war in Kosovo . After Rugova's death in 2006, Hyseni also worked for his successor Fatmir Sejdiu . He was involved in all negotiations on the future status of Kosovo. He was elected to parliament for the first time in the parliamentary elections on November 17, 2007 and became a member of the Kosovar government as Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport. On April 3, 2008, he took over the post of Foreign Minister until February 22, 2011.

Skënder Hyseni is a member of the presidium of the governing party LDK and chairman of the foreign policy committee of the LDK, as well as a member of the Kosovar constitutional commission. He is married and has four kids.
