The Skaidava Bay (English; Bulgarian залив Скаидава saliw Skaidawa ) is a 10.5 km wide and 3.2 km long bay on the north coast of Alexander I Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 25 km west of Cape Arauco . To the south it is dominated by Mount Bayonne , the northern foothills of the Rouen Mountains .
British scientists mapped it in 1991. The two Bulgarian geologists Christo Pimperew and Borislaw Kamenow visited this area on January 6, 1988 together with Philip Nell and Peter Marquis from the British Antarctic Survey . In 2017, the Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named the bay of the ancient Thracian village or the later Roman camp of Skaidawa in northeastern Bulgaria .
