Skiensvassdraget
Skiensvassdraget is the name of a river system in the Norwegian province of Vestfold og Telemark . The mouth is in the Frierfjord near Porsgrunn . The precipitation area is 10,780 km² and the longest river arm is 252 km long.
The river system consists mainly of three main branches that gather in Norsjø above Skien :
- Vinje-Tokke system , with the lakes Totak , Bandak , Kviteseidvatnet and Flåvatn . The Telemark Canal runs from Skien to Dalen .
- Bø system , with the Sundsbarmvatnet and Seljordsvatn lakes .
- Tinn system , with the lakes Møsvatnet , Kalhovdfjorden , Tinnsjø and Heddalsvatnet .
The Skienselva forms the lower reaches of the river system, between Norsjø and Frierfjord .
Within the Skiensvassdraget there are several hydropower plants and large parts are canalised. Until 2006 there was still a commercial rafting operation here. With the closure of the Norske Skog Union , the rafting stopped.
