The Eschenberg ski area near Niedersfeld in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is a winter sports area in the Rothaar Mountains . It is a pure alpine ski area .

The ski area was designated as a landscape protection area Eschenberg in 2008 . A large part of the area are legally protected biotopes according to § 30 BNatSchG .

Geographical location

The Eschenberg ski area is located south of the Winterberg village of Niedersfeld on the Eschenberg ( 726  m ), a north-eastern branch of the Nordhelle ( 792.2  m ). On the western slope of the elevation, it is located to the west above the Ruhr overflow at around 570 to almost 725  m above sea level. NN ; The federal highway 480 (Niedersfeld – Winterberg) runs along the river, thus below the ski area . The ski area with three T-bar lifts has 3.8 kilometers of slopes in difficulty levels from easy to difficult, although the black slope, which is located on the northeast slope of the Eschenberg with a lift starting near the Ruhr and can be seen from the B 480, is more like a short ski route remind. It offers very open slopes, most of which are marked in red on the piste map, but are also suitable for beginners. There is another steep slope with a lift that also starts near the river on the south-east flank. In the middle between these lifts, a ski lift that begins a little above the Ruhr leads into the wooded upper third of the Eschenberg and ends near the summit. The longest descent is 1.2 kilometers long and has an altitude difference of about 125 meters.
