The Öhrenstein in the Rothaargebirge is 791.5  m above sea level. NHN high mountain near Wiemeringhausen in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

location

The Öhrenstein rises in the northern part of the Rothaargebirge in the Hochsauerland . Its summit is 2.5 km southeast of the Olsberg district of Wiemeringhausen and 2 km north-northeast of the Winterberg district of Niedersfeld . The mountain belongs to the Wiemeringhausen district. Beyond the collection on the Sternrodt ( 789.4  m ) via conductive notch ( 779.2  m ), the limit is to Gemarkung Niedernfeld . About 1.5 km (as the crow flies ) to the east runs to the northwestern part of North Hesse and the Upland there .

The wooded mountain in the west is passed by the upper reaches of the Ruhr accompanied by the federal highway 480 . East-northeast of the summit, the Medebach, the right source brook of the Gierskoppbach rises and west of the saddle between the Öhrenstein and Beieck, west of the Ochenkreuz, the Deutmecke (Deitmeckersiepen) .

Neighbors of the Öhrenstein are Beieck ( 695  m ) in the north, Rehhorn ( 738.4  m ) in the northeast, Langenberg ( 843.2  m ) in the east, Auf dem Sternrodt ( 789.4  m ) in the southeast, beyond the Hillebach valley Rimberg ( 764.5  m ) in the south and beyond the Ruhr valley Hoher Hagen ( 729  m ) in the south-southwest, Der Stein ( 668.2  m ) in the southwest, Kahlenberg ( 732.8  m ) in the west-southwest and Bornstein ( 533.4  m ) in the Northwest. This also includes the Wildenstein south -west foothills of the Beieck with the Wildenstein castle ruins to the southeast of Wiemeringhausen .

Natural allocation

The Öhrenstein belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Langenberg (333.58). The landscape falls to the north into the natural area of Schellhorn and Treiswald (333.82) and to the west into the natural area of Nordheller Heights (333.57).

Protected areas

On the western flank of the Öhrenstein lies the nature reserve (NSG) Oserberg ( CDDA no. 329566; designated in 2001; 18.03  hectares in size), to which the NSG Bochtenbeck (CDDA no. 389669; 2006; 68.54 hectares) connects to the south ; the latter is part of the fauna-flora-habitat area gorge forests north of Niedersfeld (FFH no. 4717-303; 1.80  km² ). On the mountain there are also parts of the landscape protection area (LSG) Olsberg (CDDA no. 555554922; 1984; 79.409 km²), to which the LSG part of the city of Winterberg (CDDA no. 555555153; 1983; 75.2111 km²) bumps.

Transport, hiking, skiing

The Öhrenstein is passed to the west of the federal highway 480 (Winterberg – Niedersfeld). It can only be reached on forest trails. On its northeast flank is a ski that on the on the north edge of on the Sternrodt located ski lift can be achieved.
