geography
course
The Gierskoppbach is created by the confluence of the Lutterbecke and the Medebach in Bruchhausen . The approximately 5.8 km long Medebach rises in the saddle between Öhrenstein ( 792.1 m ) and Auf dem Sternrodt ( 789.4 m ) at about 746 m above sea level. NHN ( ⊙ ), flows north and reaches Bruchhausen after about 4.4 km. The approximately 3.7 km long Lutterbecke rises north of the Beieck ( 695 m ) and east of the Schurenstein ( 650 m ) at a height of around 600 m ( ⊙ ), also flows in a northerly direction and reaches Bruchhausen after around 3.2 km. Both streams unite on the northern edge of the village at an altitude of 438 m .
After the confluence of the now Gierskoppbach called flowing river first in a northeasterly direction and reaches approximately 2 km to the southern edge of Elleringhausen . In this elongated village, the stream turns in a wide arc to the west. It flows around the Ruthenberg ( 547.5 m ) in a long left-hand bend, reaches Gierskopp and Olsberg a little later and flows into the Ruhr after 8.2 km at an altitude of 330 m . The Gierskoppbach overcomes a height difference of 107 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 13 ‰.
Most of the stream flows through the Gierskopp-Bachtal nature reserve .
Landscape image
The Gierskoppbach and partly also its source brooks, to which the forest often extends directly, flow through agriculturally used valleys, which are framed by wooded mountains. In addition to the Langenberg ( 843.2 m ) in the south, above the headwaters, on the right in the east the Istenberg ( 728 m ) with the Bruchhauser Steinen , the Ginsterkopf ( 663.3 m ) and the Habberg ( 653.3 m ) and in the north of the Borberg ( 670.2 m ) and the Eisenberg ( 606.2 m ). The Heidkopf ( 715.3 m ) and Olsberg ( 703.8 m ) rise on the left .
Stream length, catchment area and tributaries
The Land Surveying Office of North Rhine-Westphalia gives the length of the Gierskoppbach, including the 3.7 km long Lutterbecke as a source stream, at just under 11.9 km. The real main stream is the approximately 5.8 km long Medebach, with which the Gierskoppbach is almost 13.9 km long. The catchment area of the Medebach is 10.085 km², about four times larger than that of the Lutterbecke. The entire catchment area of the Gierskoppbach is 35.202 km².
The tributaries of the Gierskoppbach include with orographic allocation (l = left-hand side, r = right-hand side) , length of the water, position and height of the mouth in meters (m) above sea level (sea level; viewed downstream):
Source streams:
- Lutterbecke (l; 3.7 km), in Bruchhausen ( 438 m )
