The Habberg between Brilon-Wald and Elleringhausen in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is 653.3  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaar Mountains . It forms a common massif with the slightly higher gorse head in the south or is the northern summit of the same.

The in Sauerland Habberg located is in the north-eastern part of the Rothaargebirge west of the Valley of Hopp corner located Brilon-Forest (southern district of Brilon ), and northeast from the valley of the yaw coupler Bach located Elleringhausen (south-eastern area of Olsberg ), wherein the border between the two cities gipfelnah over the Mountain runs.

Natural allocation

The Habberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge (333.8) to the natural area Habuch (333.83), with its terrain in the west in the natural area Ramsbecker Ridge and ravines (333.81) slopes.

Mountain height

To the northeast, below the 653.3  m high Habberg summit, topographic maps show a 651.5  m high point, and around 500 m north-northwest of the summit is the 616  m high Schusterknapp .

Rhine-Weser watershed

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Habberg and the Ginsterkopf ( 663.3  m ) to the south : While the water of the Gierskoppbach flowing to the west drains into the Rhine through the Ruhr , that of the Hoppecke to the east runs through the Diemel into the Weser . The small Gierskoppbach tributary Habbecke rises in the transition area between the two mountains , the Äskerfsiepen (Aeskerfsiepen) on the eastern flank of the Habberg and the Lüttmecke on its northern flank , both of which flow into the Hoppecke.

Protected areas

The Hoppecke-Diemel-Bergland landscape protection area <landscape type A> ( CDDA no. 345020; designated in 1989; 78.03 km² in size) is located on the northeastern areas of the Habberg, and the LSG Olsberg (CDDA no. 345105; 2004; 79 , 52 km²).

Traffic and walking

East of the Habberg in the valley of the Hoppecke the federal road 251 runs through Brilon-Wald and to the west in the valley of the Gierskoppbach through Elleringhausen the state road  743. The 1,393 m long Elleringhäuser tunnel of the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway runs through the transition area to the Ginsterkopf . The Rothaarsteig runs to the west around the Habbergkuppe . A path leads northeast past the summit.
