Skippy, the bush kangaroo (Original title: Skippy) is an Australian television series.

This children's adventure series was produced from 1966 to 1968 and was the Australian answer to Lassie . The series with the gray kangaroo , often depicted with a baseball cap, was a global hit and was broadcast in 128 countries. Along with Flipper , Daktari and Fury, it is one of the classics in animal film series. Skippy had become the first ever Australian superstar. The director was among others the Australian actor Ed Devereaux , who also played one of the leading roles. 91 episodes of the series were produced. The title melody was written by Eric Jupp and was also very popular. A feature film was made in 1969 and a new version of the series was shot in 1992 with new actors, although it was unsuccessful. From 1969 to 1975 German television broadcast only 48 episodes. From 2002, Kabel 1 showed all episodes in a new dubbed version .

Skippy the bush kangaroo formed the basis for the Australian animated series Skippy the bush pilot .

Matt Hammond is a gamekeeper in the fictional Australian Waratah National Park. His son Sonny is friends with a kangaroo named Skippy. Regardless of whether there is a threat from a bushfire or a criminal, Skippy is always there at the right time to save people or animals.
