Slaheddine Baly ( Arabic صلاح الدين بالي, DMG Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Bālī ; *  July 26, 1926 in Tunis ; † April 12, 2002 ) was a Tunisian politician of the Socialist Destur Party and most recently of the Constitutional Democratic Collection and sports functionary , who was Minister of Justice from 1973 to 1980, Minister of Defense between 1980 and 1988 and Minister of Justice again in 1988. He was then President of the Chamber of Deputies from 1988 to 1990 and President of the Constitutional Court between 1990 and 1992. He was also chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOK) from 1987 to 2002.

Life

Baly, a younger brother of the pioneer of the Tunisian scouting movement Mongi Baly, was a lawyer and acted as a prosecutor in the military tribunal after the failed plot of December 18, 1962 against President Habib Bourguiba .

As a representative of the Socialist Destur Party, he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies . He was appointed Minister of Justice to Prime Minister Hédi Nouira's cabinet on June 5, 1973, succeeding Mohamed Bellalouna , and held this ministerial office until the end of Nouira 's term on April 24, 1980. One of his closest collaborators was his head of cabinet, Rachid Sabbagh , who between Was Minister of Defense in 2013 and 2014. In addition to his political career, he was active as a sports official and was President of the FTSN (Fédération tunisienne des sports nautiques) between 1976 and 1989 .

In the next Cabinet of Prime Minister Mohamed Mzali he then took the post of defense minister and practiced this in the subsequent government of Prime Minister Rachid Sfar of 8 July 1986 to 2 October 1987 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali between October 2, 1987 and November 7, 1987 and in the government of Prime Minister Hédi Baccouche from November 7, 1987 to April 11, 1988. He was then the successor to Mohamed Salah Ayari between April 12 and his replacement by Hamed Karoui on July 27, 1988 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Baccouche again Minister of Justice.

During the seventh legislative period, Baly, who succeeded Mohamed Mzali from 1987 until his replacement by Mohamed Gueddiche in 2002, also chaired the National Olympic Committee of Tunisia (Comité national olympique tunisien) , took over on October 14, 1988 as the successor of Rachid Sfar held the function of President of the Chamber of Deputies and also held this position as President of Parliament in the first year of the eighth legislative period until he was replaced by Beji Caid Essebsi on March 13, 1990. He later succeeded Abdelaziz Ben Dhia as President of the Conseil constitutionnel in November 1990 and held this post until his replacement by Zouheir M'dhaffer in April 1992.
