Small Island (from English small , 'small, insignificant' ) is a 1.5 km long island in the northeastern part of the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of Christiania Islands it is 5 km south of Intercurrence Island .
The island was probably named by James Hoseason, first mate of the Sprightley under Captain Edward Hughes, who operated in these waters for the British whaling company Samuel Enderby & Sons between 1824 and 1825. With the name he possibly alluded to the comparatively small size of the island.
