Smartrac develops and manufactures RFID products , software and solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) .

The Amsterdam- based company has sales offices and production facilities in the USA ( Fletcher (North Carolina) ), Malaysia (Kulim), China ( Guangzhou ), and Germany (Reichshof-Wenrath, North Rhine-Westphalia ). 

history

Smartrac was founded in 2000 by Manfred Rietzler and Richard Bird as Smartrac Technology Ltd. founded in Thailand and started producing RFID inlays in 2001 . The holding company Smartrac NV was founded in Amsterdam in 2006 and went public in Germany: Smartrac shares were traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and included in the TecDAX on December 22, 2008 .

The company then continued to grow, not least through the takeover of RFID companies from the USA, Germany and Finland. On August 30, 2010, JP Morgan- owned subsidiary One Equity Partners took over the majority of the shares in Smartrac. The shares were then delisted from the TecDAX with effect from May 29, 2013. 

Products and Technologies 

Smartrac's RFID products are available for all important frequency ranges ( LF , HF / NFC , UHF ) in the form of tags (with flexible or hard housing) and inlays. Since 2015 Smartrac has been introducing a range of self-powered inlays with sensory capabilities for determining temperature and humidity values. One product in this series was voted “Best New Product” at the 2016 RFID Journal Awards in Orlando by the trade audience.

Markets 

After the sale of the Secure ID & Transactions division (which serves the markets for electronic identification documents, contactless payment cards, access cards and public transport payment systems), Smartrac u. a. active in the following markets and application areas:

Animal Identification: Products for the identification of pets and farm animals of all types and sizes.

Car Access: The range includes a wide variety of components for electronic immobilizers, remote controls and keyless entry and start systems. 

Healthcare: Smartrac products are used for the secure identification and tracking of patients, staff, instruments or samples, as well as for protection against human error and the avoidance of medical malpractice.

Industrial Applications / Automotive: The product range covers applications in areas such as industrial automation, manufacturing, oil & gas, chemical industry and the like. a. from. Transponders that are optimized for industrial use withstand even difficult environmental conditions (extreme temperatures, chemicals, vibrations, shocks, etc.). 

Retail: Smartrac offers RFID and IoT solutions to optimize shop performance and improve the shopping experience for customers.

Supply Chain & Asset Management: a wide range of RFID transponders with which global logistics chains can be designed more efficiently.

Social responsibility / sustainability

Smartrac supports the position of the European Commission, which the corporate social responsibility ( CSR ) is defined as "a concept whereby companies based on voluntary social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders to integrate."

The company is a sponsor and member of the UN Global Compact network . In this capacity, it has undertaken to observe the 10 universal principles of the network with regard to human rights, labor standards, the environment and climate as well as corruption prevention and to contribute to their dissemination. 

Smartrac is committed to a production concept with minimal ecological impact. With this in mind, the company is pursuing the certification of its production sites according to ISO 14001 . All products are "halogen-free" and meet the requirements of the specifications of IEC 61249-2-21.
