Snuff || Hiroshima -

Snuff || Hiroshima is the fourth album by the German metal band Fäulnis . It was released on CD and vinyl on February 28, 2014 on the Cold Dimensions label .

Creation and publication

Following the release of its predecessor brain between delusion and meaning in 2009 epidemic announced in interviews originally an album called last stop on that with choleric - A workup and brain between delusion and sense started The decline of an individual should be called trilogy finish. At the end of 2010, front man Seuche announced that after a few appearances, the band would be put on hold for the time being, on the grounds that he had "not written a new song for 1 1/2 years".

During the inactivity epidemic spent half a year in Japanese Hiroshima and started to write new songs. In February 2013, the nine-piece result was recorded in the Blastbeat studio and mixed by April of that year. However, it took until the end of February 2014 for the material to be published via Cold Dimensions. Seuche justified this delay with difficulties in finding a label, as well as with the mix, which made it necessary to remix the pieces. In advance, the official music video for Weil because of contempt , the second title of the album, was released on YouTube on February 2nd . As with the short film Letharg and the music video for White Walls from the album Brain Between Wahn and Sense , the film was produced by Harddrive Media.

While the songs on previous releases were mostly written by Epidemic and the contributions of the fellow musicians mostly related to their instruments, Paranoia stems from Snuff || Hiroshima for the first time the music of a piece not by the singer, but by the guitarist MRM. The pieces Abgrundtief , In Ohnmacht and Durch die Nacht mit ... are based on ideas of fellow musicians, while the lyrics were still written by Epidemic alone.

Style and reception

The music on Snuff || Hiroshima is influenced by mid-tempo black metal and punk elements, which are mainly expressed in the vocals. Compared to brain between madness and meaning , the Doom influences have noticeably decreased.

The lyrics are about negative emotions like madness, paranoia and hatred. Two tracks ( Atomkinder und Vogelmenschen , Hiroshima ) deal with Seuches time in Hiroshima, in the song Durch die Nacht mit ... he deals with the death of his friend K. Zwiespalt from the band Stillhet , the chorus of the piece quotes the chorus of the song Die Streets from the Stillhet album Echoes . In contrast to the previous publications, the texts relate more to the outside world and their design is influenced by the German punk of the 80s and 90s. Seuche highlights Fleeing Storms and the bands of Jens Rachut ( Grandma Hans , Flowers on the Ass of Hell ) as lyrical influences.

Snuff || Hiroshima received mostly positive feedback. The singing and the quality of the texts were positively emphasized, from which comparisons can be drawn with post-war poetry and rubble literature as well as with the early works of Gottfried Benn and Georg Trakl .

Moritz Grütz from metal1.info says the music is “catchy and easy to drink”. According to several reviewers, the punk influences are mainly reflected in the style of the singing.

Robert Fröwein from stormbringer.at criticizes "the missing link between text and music" and describes the music as "far too life-affirming".
