Fäulnis is a metal band from Hamburg . Because of its concept, it is variously assigned to " Suicidal Black Metal" or " Depressive Black Metal ", but defends itself against these genre names.
Band history
Fäulnis was initially the solo project of the musician Seuche . Since 2009 Fäulnis has been a band made up of epidemic and musicians named only by their initials, who originally participated in recordings and live performances.
In 2004 the first album Cholerik - A work-up was released on the NeoKlasSick Productions label, followed by the EP Letharg (2005). A 7 "EP called Kommando Thanatos was released in 2007. The album was re-released in 2007 under the name Cholerik: Eine Aufarbeit² by Karge Welten Kunstverlag and contains, in addition to a remastered version of the debut, three bonus tracks. In 2008 the short film Letharg was released on the Dreadful Media label Directed by Bjarne Wilking, the main role played by Stephan Lenze. The 20-minute short film is underlaid by the play of the EP of the same name and shows the protagonist as he slowly vegetated to himself during his daily life between work and sleep while at work slowly a machine grows.
Since 2009 the group has occasionally performed live with changing guest musicians. The live premiere took place on November 27, 2009 as the opening act for Lifelover . In 2009 the album Brain Between Wahn and Sense was released . At the end of 2010, the project was suspended for an indefinite period. After an official music video for White Walls , produced by Harddrive Media, was published on YouTube on February 18, 2011 , Fäulnis played live concerts again since October 2011.
Almost a year after the recording of the third album Snuff || was finished Hiroshima announced Epidemic on February 1, 2014, the release of the same at the end of the month via the label Cold Dimensions . The official music video for the piece Weil because of contempt was published as a teaser on the following February 2nd on Youtube . As with the short film Letharg and the music video for White Walls from the album Brain between Wahn and Sense , the film was produced by Harddrive Media.
On February 28, 2014, Snuff became || Hiroshima released on CD and vinyl .
In a post on the band's Facebook presence on December 11, 2017, Seuche announced that the band would no longer perform live. A split EP with Unru planned for 2018 will still be released, after which it is unclear whether further material will be published under the name Fäulnis .
Music style and concept
Fäulnis' music is rooted in black metal , but also has stylistic influences from doom metal , punk , hardcore punk , classical music and the medium of radio play . According to Seuche, the texts are based on his own experience and sensory impressions, the so-called "negative" in his person, which he wants to distinguish by choosing his pseudonym from "the person who [he] [sees] in the mirror in the morning". Lyrically there are connections to Suicidal Black Metal and Depressive Black Metal. The musician himself rejects these terms and describes his music as "Sick Black Art", most recently also as "BlackDoomPunkRock". The subjects of the lyrics express a morbid atmosphere, especially on newer releases, very direct and blunt. The earlier texts, on the other hand, had a more lyrical touch and were full of metaphors , according to Seuche " formulated semantically much too exaggerated".
controversy
The EP Letharg was released on the right-wing extremist label Christhunt Productions , which led to speculation about Rot's political orientation. Epidemic justified itself in Legacy 05/2009:
“I stand by the decision made at that time, also with its possible consequences. I let myself be tempted by a good offer at a time when I didn't give a shit what rot was going to happen anyway. [...] Anyone who messes up should also stand by it. [...] For the right to the left and for the left not enough left ... rot is punk rock and that's it. "
