Sobieski Ross

Sobieski Ross (born May 16, 1828 in Coudersport , Potter County , Pennsylvania , †  October 24, 1877 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Sobieski Ross attended the public schools in his home country as well as the Coudersport Academy . He then worked in the construction industry ( civil engineering ) and in the real estate industry. He also worked in agriculture. In 1852 he became an associate judge. He later became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1872 congressional elections , Ross was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Henry Sherwood on March 4, 1873 . After re-election in the 16th district of his state, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1877 . In 1876 he renounced another candidacy.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Sobieski Ross worked again in the real estate industry. He died on October 24, 1877 in his hometown of Coudersport, where he was also buried.
