Robert Jarvis Cochran Walker (born October 20, 1838 in West Chester , Pennsylvania , †  December 19, 1903 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Walker attended schools in East Hampton and Cambridge ( Massachusetts ). After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his 1859 admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Philadelphia in this profession. He became the principal of the Pennsylvania First School District. He was also twice elected to the Philadelphia City Council. In 1874 he bought the Saturday Evening Post newspaper , which he edited for a short time. Then he got into the oil business. From 1875 he lived in Williamsport , where he worked, among other things, in the wood industry and in the coal business.

Politically, Walker was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1880 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  electoral district of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John I. Mitchell on March 4, 1881 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1882, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1883 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Robert Walker moved to Philadelphia, where he worked in the chemical industry. He died there on December 19, 1903.
