William Wallace Brown

William Wallace Brown (born April 22, 1836 in Summerhill , Cayuga County , New York , †  November 4, 1926 in Bradford , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1838, William Brown came with his parents to Elk County , Pennsylvania, where he later attended public schools and the Smethport Academy . He then studied until 1861 at Alfred University in Allegany County in New York State. In 1861 he entered after the outbreak of civil war in the army of the Union one, where he served first at a unit of New York and later at the State of Pennsylvania. In 1864 he became a clerk ( recorder ) in McKean County , Pennsylvania; in 1866 he became a school councilor in that district.

After studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1866, Brown began to work in this profession. In the same year he was elected district attorney. In 1869 Brown moved to Corry , where he worked for the local administration for three years. He also sat there on the local council for two years. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1872 and 1876 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . In 1876 he was also on the governor's staff . He also became a member of the national guard of his state. From 1878 he lived in Bradford, where he practiced as a lawyer.

In the congressional election of 1882 Brown was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Robert Jarvis Cochran Walker on March 4, 1883 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1887 . In 1886 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Brown worked again as a lawyer. Between 1892 and 1897 he was the legal representative for the city of Bradford. He then worked between 1897 and 1899 as an auditor for the War Ministry ; from 1899 to 1907 he held the same position in the Ministry of the Navy . He then worked for the Federal Ministry of Justice until 1910 , where he was entrusted with the claims from the peace treaty with Spain from 1898. After that he continued his legal practice. William Brown died in Bradford on November 4, 1926.
