The Frankfurter Societät GmbH is a diversified and digital media company based in Frankfurt am Main in Hesse . It came into being on January 1, 2011, when Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei GmbH repositioned itself for the future in three companies and merged into a holding structure: The publishing division has since operated under Frankfurter Societäts-Medien GmbH, Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei stands for the printing company and the Frankfurter Societät GmbH bundle the administrative tasks of the group. Frankfurter-Societäts-Medien GmbH has been operating under the umbrella brand "Mediengruppe Frankfurt" since mid-2017.

The bankers Leopold Sonnemann and Heinrich Bernhard Rosenthal founded the Börsenblatt Frankfurter Geschäftsbericht on July 21, 1856 in Frankfurt am Main . In the course of the following decade, the four-page sheet developed into the “Frankfurter Zeitung”, which over the years has become a national daily newspaper with a worldwide reputation. It appeared in the Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei, which was founded in 1860, until August 10, 1943, when, at the instigation of the Nazis, the company was discontinued. Because of its international reputation, the Frankfurter Zeitung continued to appear after 1933, although the Nazi rulers did not like it. The Frankfurter Illustrierte was published at the same time .
Sonnemann showed great openness to technical progress: as early as 1863 he bought two two-cycle presses for newspaper printing, the first of its kind in Germany. In 1879 he had one of the first Augsburg rotary presses installed.
In 1921 the Societäts-Verlag was founded as a book publisher for the Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei with a focus on economic issues, history and politics.
After the end of the war, the American military government appointed the publishing merchant Werner Wirthle as trustee of the Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei in 1946, who rebuilt the FSD as a modern publishing company.

Today's Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei (FSD) is one of the largest printing companies in Europe for web offset printing, based in Mörfelden-Walldorf.
