Society for Military History
The Society for Military History (SMH) is an American association founded in 1933 for the scientific research of military history . She is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) and is considered a leader in this field.
history
The Military History Society was founded in 1933 at the instigation of Charles ET Lull , a former World War I officer , as the American Military History Foundation (AMHF) in Washington, DC . As early as 1939 it was renamed the “American Military Institute” (AMI). The current name "Society for Military History" (SMH) dates back to 1990.
organization
Members
The society has over 2,300 members, including national and international scientists, soldiers and citizens with an interest in military history. They deal with topics such as naval history, military aviation history, technologies and military theory and are informed via the quarterly members' newsletter Headquarters Gazette .
A total of nine regional coordinators take care of different regions of the world: Europe / Africa / Middle East, Eastern Canada / New York / New England, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest, Great Plains, Southwest, Pacific Coast and Pacific.
Conferences
Conferences are held annually; participation in the Northern Great Plains History Conference (NGPHC) is supported.
