The Socks Glacier is a small glacier in the Ross Dependency of Antarctica . It flows from the eastern slopes of the Queen Alexandra chain immediately north of the Owen Hills and flows into the western flank of the Beardmore Glacier .
The glacier was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . It is named after the pony socks , which served as one of four horses on Shackleton's march and three companions towards the South Pole as a draft animal for the transport sleds.
