Sofja Alexandrovna Smirnowa ( Russian Софья Александровна Смирнова ; born February 1, 1988 in Meschduretschensk ) is a Russian freestyle skier .
Career
Smirnowa began her sports career as an alpine ski runner . From 2004 to 2011 she mainly participated in FIS races . She has been taking part in freestyle competitions in the ski cross discipline since the 2011/12 season. She made her debut in the World Cup on February 25, 2012 in Bischofswiesen , where she finished tenth. The following year she finished 30th at the 2013 World Championships in Voss . In the 2013/14 season she started in the European Cup. She got two wins and came fourth in the discipline at the end of the season.
In the following season 2014/15 Smirnowa came in eleven World Cup appearances five times in the top ten. With third place in Arosa , she achieved her first World Cup podium. At the end of the season finished ninth in the Skicross World Cup. At the season highlight, the 2015 World Championships on Kreischberg , she finished in 21st place. In March 2015 she became Russian ski cross champion. After 3rd place in the European Cup at the beginning of the 2015/16 season , she achieved three top 10 placements in the World Cup and finished tenth in the Ski Cross World Cup at the end of the season. In March 2016 she was again Russian champion.
Smirnova has so far taken part in 31 World Cup races and was among the top ten ten times. (Status: end of season 2015/16)
