history

From the 19th century until 1925, logging was the main occupation of the new settlers in the area. That year, a large fire in White Pine Township destroyed the sawmill run by Jame McGrath , causing about 1200 employees to lose their jobs. McGrath sold 13.75 km² of his land to the government. This area then came the veterans of World War I benefited, after which the area was known as a veteran Ville. The historic "Veteransville Post Office" is still managed in the GNIS today .

After a few years, most of the new landowners left. As a result, the local rail network and the associated train station stations were torn down. The main rail network, however, remained until 1989. Aitken County later acquired the former railroad site. Today it is known in state forests as the Soo Line South ATV Trail , a terrain for quad bikes . The 209-kilometer route leads from Glenola to Duluth .
