Solanum confusum is a species of the genus nightshade ( Solanum ) inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Solanum confusum is a 1 to 3.5 m high shrub . The branches are hairless to densely tomentose with glandular and non-glandular trichomes . The sympodial units have four or five leaves . The leaf blades are membranous to almost membranous, 5 to 19 cm long and 1.5 to 6.5 (rarely up to 8) cm wide. The ratio of length to width is between 2: 1 and 4.5: 1. The leaves are undivided and elliptical in shape. To the front they are pointed or pointed, wedge-shaped at the base or down on the petiole . They are hairless or moderately tomentose on both sides. The leaf stalks have a length of 0.5 to 4 cm and are hairless to moderately tomentose, with the hair being thicker in a groove on the front.

The inflorescences are unbranched or forked up to twice or further branched. They contain 5 to 30 (rarely 40 or more) flowers . The inflorescence stalk is 1.5 to 9 cm long, the inflorescence axis 1 to 10 cm. The flower stalks are 5 to 30 mm long and 1 to 14 (rarely up to 40) mm apart. On the fruit, the flower stalks extend to 15 to 35 cm and are widened outwards below the calyx. At or near the base they are widened and leave a scar or a short pin up to 1 mm long. The inflorescence is hairless to densely tomentose with glandular and non-glandular trichomes.

The calyx is almost hairless to densely hairy, it measures 2 to 8 mm in diameter and is studded with 1 to 7 mm long and 1 to 2 mm wide, triangular lobes, which are often tapered into a pointed tip. The crown is pink to purple, membranous to paper-like and star-shaped or star-shaped-bell-shaped. It measures 8 to 15 mm in diameter, the corolla tube is 2 to 4 mm long. The corolla lobes are 6 to 12 mm long and 2 to 5 mm wide at the base. They are narrowly triangular to ovate and pointed or almost pointed towards the front. The outside can be hairless to densely hairy, the inside is hairless except for the midrib and the tips.

The anthers can be inclined, they are greenish white to purple, yellowish or reddish brown in color. They are ovate to lanceolate in shape, hairless, rough on the outside but not papilose and are 5 to 9 mm long and 1.5 to 3.5 mm wide. The pores are directed outwards. The ovary is hairless. The stylus is also hairless or sparsely hairy, cylindrical and 6 to 10 mm long and about 0.5 to 1 mm in diameter. The scar is cut off.

The fruits are about 0.8 to 2 cm long and just as wide. They are spherical, blunt at the tip, hairless and colored yellow to orange when ripe. There may be stone cells . The seeds are 4 to 6 mm long, 3 to 5 mm wide, angular and hairless and wrinkled or particularly hairy along the edge with dense white pseudo hairs.

Occurrence and locations

The species is found in Bolivia and northwestern Argentina . It grows in subtropical cloud forests , on open areas or in secondary vegetation . It is often found on slopes or in gorges together with Alnus acuminata . The locations are at altitudes of 900 to 4000 m.

Systematics
