Soldier Iceland ( Russian Остров Солдат Ostrow Soldier , German , soldiers Island ' ) is a 4 km long and elongated rocky island off the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located in the Vestfold Mountains south of Partizan Island in the southern part of the entrance to the Langnes Fjord .

Norwegian cartographers mistakenly mapped it as a peninsula based on aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . This was corrected in 1952 when mapping using aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947). Further aerial photographs were taken between 1954 and 1958 during the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions and in 1956 by scientists on a Soviet Antarctic expedition. The latter also made the designation, which the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred in 1970 in a partial translation into English.
