Solmaz Sharif

Solmaz Sharif (* 1986 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is an Iranian - American poet.

Life

Sharif was born in Istanbul to the daughter of Iranians who left their homeland in the late 1970s. She received degrees from both the University of California at Berkeley and New York University . Then she published poetry z. B. in The New Republic and in Poetry . She is currently teaching on a two-year Jones Lecturership fellowship at Stanford University in California .

In 2016 Sharif became known in the USA for the publication of the volume Look: Poems . In this volume she describes, among other things, the change in terms used in everyday language by the Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms published by the US Department of Defense . She began working on and with this compendium in 2007.
