Somatochlora clavata is a type of dragonfly from the family of falcon dragonflies (Corduliidae), which belong to the large dragonflies (Anisoptera).
features
Somatochlora clavata reaches a total length of about 59 millimeters, with about 47 millimeters being on the abdomen . The wingspan of the hind wings is about 42 millimeters. The eyes, like the forehead, are metallic blue-green in color. The labrum and labium are yellow and the mandible black. The thorax has a black and yellow pattern, the wing veins, the costal veins , the pterostigma and the legs are black. There are yellow spots on epimerons 2 and 3, the second abdominal segment also has a yellow, triangular mark on the underside. There is a yellow band between the second and third abdominal segments.
distribution
Somatochlora clavata lives in flowing waters in Japan and Korea, whereby the species according to Kadoya 2009 has a very extensive distribution area and occurs on canals.
Research history
The species was first described in 1922 using two males from the Japanese island of Hokkaidō by K. Oguma.
