The Somcheti Mountains ( Armenian Վիրահայոց (Սոմխեթի) լեռնաշղթա ; Russian Сомхетский хребет ) is a mountain range in the central part of the Lesser Caucasus .
The Somcheti Mountains extend over a length of 75 km in the border area between Georgia and Armenia . The mountains reach a maximum height of 2543 m in Lalwar . It forms the watershed between the Maschawera in the north and the Dsoraget - Debed river system in the south and east. The mountain range consists of sedimentary rocks of volcanic origin and intrusions of granite . The northern slopes are wooded. The southern mountain slopes, on the other hand, are covered by a mountain steppe landscape with shrub vegetation. Copper ore deposits are located on the southern slope of the Somcheti Mountains near Alaverdi .
