The first verse of the song reads:

Somebody stole my gal
Somebody stole my pal
Somebody came out and took her away
She didn't even say she was leaving today
And Gee! How I hoped she would come to me
Throw her arms around me and comfort me
And see her broken harted lonesome pal
Oh dear lord
Somebody stole my gal.
