Buddy Cole

Edwin LeMar "Buddy" Cole (born December 15, 1916 in Irving (Illinois) , † November 5, 1964 in Los Angeles ) was an American musician ( piano , celesta , organ ) and orchestra conductor who was both involved in swing as also worked in other popular music and for the film studios.

Life

Cole began his musical career in movie theaters as a pause pianist before he moved to Hollywood and played in various swing bands, as in the big band of Alvino Rey , emerged with the first around 1940 shots. He then worked as a studio musician . In 1944 he appeared in Los Angeles with Jazz at the Philharmonic , where he a. a. starred with Shorty Sherock , Bumps Myers , Joe Thomas , Red Callender , Russell Jacquet , Corky Corcoran , Jack McVea and Les Paul . In the 1950s, Cole recorded a number of easy-listening LPs under his own name for Columbia and Warner Bros. with titles such as Organ Moods In Hi-Fi, Have Organ, Will Swing and Pipes and Chimes of Christmas . In the field of pop and film music , he also worked with Henry Mancini , who used his Hammond organ sound in the soundtrack of the television series Mr. Lucky . In the field of jazz he was involved in 113 recording sessions from 1940. Cole died of a heart attack shortly after the 20th Century Fox film The Sound of Music was recorded .
