Somerset is a small town in the Australian state of Tasmania .

Geographical location

The place in northern Tasmania is six kilometers west of the city of Burnie at the confluence of the Cam River in the Bass Strait , halfway between the municipality of Wynyard and Burnie, on the Bass Highway .

Economy and Infrastructure

There are a number of small businesses in Somerset, almost all of which are on the main drag, such as a woodworking company and a mining, forestry and agricultural machinery company. There are sports facilities for football and tennis in the village. In front of Sommerset there is a quartz sand beach with a dune.

Since there is only one elementary school in Sommerset, students must take Tasmania's metro to secondary schools in either Wynyard or Burnie. Burnie Airport is about a 15-minute drive away in Wynyard.
