Somerset Lowry-Corry, 2nd Earl Belmore

Somerset Lowry-Corry, 2nd Earl Belmore (born July 11, 1774 in Dublin , † April 18, 1841 in Leamington Spa , Warwickshire ) was an Irish nobleman and governor of Jamaica .

Lowry-Corry was the second son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 1st Earl Belmore , and his wife, Lady Margaret Butler, daughter of Somerset Butler, 1st Earl of Carrick .

From 1801 to 1802 he was an MP for the constituency of Tyrone in the British House of Commons . In 1802 he inherited the title of Earl Belmore , as his older brother had died in 1773. From 1819 to 1841 he was an Irish representative peer member of the British House of Lords and from 1819 held the office of Custos Rotulorum of Counties Tyrone. From 1829 to 1832 he was governor of Jamaica. He was also a Colonel in the Tyrone Militia .

Marriage and offspring

On October 20, 1800, he married his cousin Lady Juliana Butler, the second daughter of his uncle Henry Butler, 2nd Earl of Carrick. The marriage had three children.
