Coordinates: 27 ° 14 ′ S , 152 ° 25 ′ E The Somerset Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 5373 km² and has about 25,000 inhabitants.
geography
The region is located in the southeast of the state about 75 km northwest of the capital Brisbane .
The largest city and the administrative seat of the LGA is Esk with about 1300 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and towns: Atkinsons Dam, Avoca Vale, Banks Creek, Biarra, Borallon, Braemore, Brightview, Bryden, Buaraba, Caboonbah, Clarendon, Coal Creek, Colinton, Cooeeimbardi, Coolana, Coominya, Cressbrook, Crossdale, Dundas, England Creek, Esk, Eskdale, Fairney View, Fernvale, Fulham, Glamorgan Vale, Glen Esk, Glenfern, Gregors Creek, Haigslea, Harlin, Hazeldean, Ivory Creek, Jimna, Kilcoy, Kingaham, Lake Manchester, Lake Wivenhoe, Lark Hill, Linville , Lockrose, Lower Cressbrook, Lowood, Marburg , Minden , Monsildale, Moombra, Moore, Mount Archer, Mount Beppo, Mount Byron, Mount Hallen, Mount Kilcoy, Mount Stanley, Mount Tarampa, Murrumba, Ottaba, Patrick Estate, Prenzlau , Redbank Creek , Rifle Range, Royston, Sandy Creek, Scrub Creek, Sheep Station Creek, Somerset Dam, Split Yard Creek, Tarampa, Toogoolawah, Vernor, Villeneuve, Wanora, Westvale, Winya, Wivenhoe Hill, Wivenhoe Pocket, Woolmar and Yimbun.
history
Today's Somerset Region was created in 2008 from the two Shires Esk and Kilcoy.
administration
The Somerset Regional Council has seven members. The mayor (mayor) and six other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
