Song of Zarathustra was an American screamo band from Sioux City , Iowa that existed from 1997 to 2003. The hallmark of their music was the synthesis of hard bass and guitar playing with a powerful organ sound.

Band history

In March 1997 the band was formed by Travis Bos, Trever McInnis and James Munsen. At first they used a Roland R8 drum machine . A drummer was later found in David Seaman, who had previously played with Nudibranch . Over the next year, Song of Zarathustra toured America until they broke up in 1998 after Seaman moved back to his home in Richmond, Virginia and formed the band Hot New Dance Hits .

Between 1998 and 2000, Bos and Munsen moved to Minneapolis , Minnesota and founded The Book of Dead Names .

In March 2000, Song of Zarathustra decided to continue and toured again with the original line-up with the Roland R8 drum machine. A little later they recorded their album The Birth of Tragedy , this time with Mark Jorgensen on drums.

After the release of The Birth of Tragedy , Song of Zarathustra toured America again before coming to Europe for the first time in 2001.

In late 2001, founding member and bassist James Munsen left the band and was replaced by Mark Shaw. Tad Kubler, who had previously played with Lifter Puller , joined the band as a second guitarist.

At the beginning of 2002, Song of Zarathustra toured Europe for the second time, followed by the recordings of the second album A View From High Tides .

In the summer of that year, Tad Kubler left the band to move to New York , where he formed The Hold Steady .

Due to constant changes in the line-up and personal differences, the remaining band members decided in January 2003 to break up the band.

In February 2010, Song of Zarathustra played a concert at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis . In November of the same year a concert in the Cake Shop in New York City followed .

Travis Bos now plays with the band Chariots , Mark Shaw is guitarist with The Cardinal Sin , Tad Kubler continues to play with The Hold Steady and Mark Jorgensen is currently active with the punk band Assassanations . David Seaman is a member of the band Order of the Keys .
