Sonja Gangl works with various media. In earlier groups of works such as Rebeka International or Letterboxing , she chose the media of photography, video and spatial installation . Since 2002 she turned more to drawing. Central to this are the work complexes Captured on paper_eyes and Captured on paper_The End , in which Gangl “dedicates himself to the architecture of filmmakers who represent a specific element of our cultural memory.” It is about the transformation of image content from the medium of film and photography into that Medium drawing. The "large-format drawings do not deal expressively but conceptually with other media: with film and photography."

The work complexes “Captured on paper_eyes” and “Captured on paper_The End” were shown in 2013/14 at the Albertina Museum; Gangl was thus the "first woman to whom the Albertina dedicates a solo exhibition."
