Sonne Adam is an Israeli death metal and death doom band from Tel Aviv-Jaffa , which was founded in 2007.

Surname

The name Sun Adam is a combination of the Hebrew words שֹׂנֵא sōnē 'hater', 'enemy', participle to the root שנא 'Hate', and אָדָם ādām 'man'. The band was not aware of a misinterpretation in German, where it reads like a reference to the sun and the biblical first man Adam , when they chose the name.

history

The band was formed in 2007 by guitarist Tom Davidov and singer Chen Dahan. They recorded songs in their home studios and made them available in their Myspace profiles, which allowed them to increase their profile. After the band had recorded the EP The Sun Is Dead , which was never officially released, the EP Armed with Hammers was released on the German label Imperium Productions in 2010 . The German Rock Hard became aware of the group and named the record "demo of the month". The group had signed the contract with Imperium Productions after they had uploaded the first songs from the EP to Myspace . This is how Philipp Schulte, owner of Imperium Productions, became aware of the group. However, the label had specialized in record releases. However, since Schulte was also an employee at Century Media , he managed to release CD and MP3 versions for the group on the label. The group's debut album was released via Century Media in 2011 under the name Transformation . Imperium Productions continued to publish the record versions. The album was produced by Eli Pikover . In 2012 the compilation Messengers of Desolate Ways was released , which consists of the previously published EPs Doctrines of Dark Devotion , Armed with Hammers and The Sun Is Dead . The new songs include a cover version of the Thorns song Funeral Marches to the Grave , once as a regular and once as a remix version, as well as the song No Blood Flow . In the same year, Sonne Adam played several concerts, including in Munich with Grave and friend Hein .

Music style and lyrics

According to the biography on centurymedia.com , Sonne Adam was founded to play dark Death Metal in the style of Paradise Lost , mixed with the raw, blasphemous music of Morbid Angel . Marc Lehmann compared the band in the review of their EP Armed with Hammers for Voices from the Darkside with Necros Christos . Hacker also compared her in the review of her debut album Transformation for Voices from the Darkside with Necros Christos, as well as with Morbid Angel and Paradise Lost. According to Christoph Meul from metal.de in his review of Messengers of Desolate Ways , the album Transformation can be classified between Paradise Lost, Morbid Angel and Necros Christos. The first part of the compilation is "Death Metal with a dark, occult flair". In the following, newer songs, the influences from Doom Metal would have increased. The guitar runs in the middle section of World of Everlasting Darkness were reminiscent of the Paradise Lost album Gothic . The new material now appears less bulky and malignant. In his review for Voices from the Darkside, Marc Lehmann names bands such as Celtic Frost , Morbid Angel, Autopsy , Samael , Asphyx and Necros Christos as musical references . The band itself names Paradise Lost, Morbid Angel and Darkthrone as their probably most obvious influences . According to Dahan, the band's lyrics are “metaphorical utterances that mostly revolve around personal understanding, thoughts, dreams and so on. We use a very dark language to work on these topics because it fits the music best. ”In an interview with Brandon Stosuy of pitchfork.com , Chen Dahan stated that the album title Transformation is based on the title song, which is about how to achieve a higher consciousness through a “transformation through flames”, through a kind of test. In an interview with Robert Müller from Metal Hammer , Dahan also stated that he was influenced by groups like Morbid Angel, Paradise Lost (up to Gothic ) and Darkthrone. In addition, horror films from the 1960s and Pakistani Qawwalis are also influences. Music is the expression of the band members for their fascination with the occult. In his review of Messengers of Desolate Ways, Müller described the group as a retro death metal band. The compilation shows influences from Celtic Frost and Paradise Lost.
