Sonnengasse 3 refers to a listed building in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Speyer . The half-timbered house is the former inn "Zur Sonne" and gave its name to the Sun Bridge and the street of the same name.

location

The house is located in the Hasenpfuhl district of Speyer north of the Sun Bridge. The alley forms a small square here, where the listed buildings Sonnengasse 1 and 7 are located.

history

In 1232 the suburb above the Hasenpfuhl was first mentioned in a document. Ten years later, the Nikolausbrücke was also mentioned, a two-arched late medieval building that crosses the Speyerbach .

The houses on both sides of the bridge were destroyed in the Palatine War of Succession in 1689 and rebuilt between 1698 and 1702. To the south was the “Zum Halben Mond” inn (today: Halbmond ), opposite the “Zur Sonne” inn. The bridge was then called the Sun Bridge . After the reconstruction, the Hasenpfuhl was the quarter of fishermen and shipmen . 1735 Joh. Wilhelm Spatz is as host Golden Sun called.

In 1927 the building was fitted with a shop, the architect was Georg Schwarz. Since then, the house has been renovated to preserve the existing structure. There is currently a jewelry store on the ground floor (as of 2017).

description

The late Baroque house has two floors. The gable with its exposed half-timbered facade and two window axes faces south. The east side has three axes and is plastered. The windows still have their old division and shutters. The ground floor is characterized by the later conversions to shops. In the gable roof were dormers installed.

In the west, a similar house is built, offset to the north, but the half-timbering is completely plastered.
