The Sonnenkopf is a 1712 meter high mountain near Sonthofen in the Bavarian Allgäu Alps . It is part of the Sonnenkopf group, which runs parallel in a north-south direction to the higher Großer Thumb mountain range, which is located to the east. The notch height of the Sonnenkopf is at least 32 meters, its dominance 300 meters, with the Heidelbeerkopf being the reference mountain. The sun's head consists mainly of flysch .
The summit is a popular destination for hikers in summer, and numerous ski tourers visit it in winter . There is a summit cross and a summit book . The ascent of the Sonnenkopf summit usually takes place from Hinang, Hochweiler and Altstädten.
