The sun nectar bird ( Cinnyris solaris , Syn . : Nectarinia solaris ) is a Southeast Asian member of the nectar bird family .
features
The bright orange breast is striking, which is why it is called the Flame-breasted Sunbird in English . The back, wings and head are olive green in color. The face and neck are covered with shiny blue feathers.
A distinction is made between C. s. exquisita (on Wetar Island ) and C. s. solaris (on the islands from Sumbawa to Timor ). The population on Atauro (between Wetar and Timor) has not yet been assigned.
Occurrence and habitat
The sun nectar bird lives on most of the Lesser Sunda Islands from Sumbawa in the west to Timor in the east. Here it can be found in tropical dry forests and bushland up to an altitude of about 1000 m . But it is missing on the southern islands of Sumba and Sawu . The population is considered stable.
