Sonpur (also Sonepur ; Hindi : सोनपुर , Sonapur ) is a city in the east Indian state of Bihar . It is located in the Saran district and has 33,389 inhabitants (2001) (3,355 in 1901), of which 53.4% ​​are men and 47.6% are women. The literacy rate is around 60% (Indian average: 59.5%), with 70% for men and 48% for women.

In Sonpur there is also a departmental headquarters of the East Central Railway Division of the Indian State Railways . The station has one of the longest platforms in the world (about 736 m long).
