Details

The W810 was launched in April 2006. In the worldwide mobile phone sales statistics published by Krusell at approximately monthly intervals, it came first in June 2006 for the first time, and in the following two months it was second behind the newly released Sony Ericsson K800i .

Like its predecessor, it uses Sony's Walkman brand and has a two-megapixel digital camera with autofocus. It offers space for music files and photos on 20 megabytes of internal memory and a standard 512 megabyte memory card. Furthermore, a 3.5 jack plug adapter is included so that you can listen to music with any commercially available headphones. As in the previous model, there is also a Walkman button on this mobile phone , which can be used to access the playlist directly. When the mobile phone is switched on, it is possible to start the music mode, in which videos can also be played. All functions except for the alarm clock and the Walkman function are switched off. This not only has the advantage that you can listen to music without having to insert a SIM card, but also that you can use this function in no-cell phone zones such as airplanes or hospitals. It also extends the battery life.

Technical innovations

As an innovation, the W810 is the first Sony Ericsson phone has a native WAP / HTML - browser on NetFront basis, can be displayed relatively comfortable and spacious with the designed not specifically designed for mobile phones more extensive websites.

The software has remained the same for most of the previous model. An RSS reader supports reading news, and the application button can be used to switch between different applications. However, this is by no means comparable to multitasking ability. The design has changed: the cell phone was originally only offered in a neutral black. A limited edition white version of the phone was also later released. The display and keyboard lighting adapts to the ambient light by means of a brightness sensor above the display in order to achieve better readability and to save electricity. In addition, Sony Ericsson did not use the joystick for navigation on this model, which was one of the major weaknesses of the previous models due to dust-related malfunctions. Instead, a 5-way control pad is used. The camera cover, which often failed mechanically in the previous model, has been completely omitted in this model, which has been heavily criticized in some cases. With minimal modifications, however, the rear housing shells of the W800 and the K750 can be mounted on the W810 to obtain an unofficial camera cover. This is possible because the W810 is largely based on the hardware platform of the K750 or W800. Furthermore, the middle frame of the case of a K750 or W800 can be used for the W810, which results in officially unavailable color combinations (e.g. white W810 front and back cover, orange W800 middle frame).

Others

The mobile phone officially only supports memory cards up to two gigabytes in size. Unofficially, four, eight and sixteen gigabyte cards also work, but the speed suffers e.g. B. in the file manager with larger maps sometimes considerably.

If you want to take advantage of the promised USB 2.0 speed, you have to set the phone to file transfer mode after plugging in the data cable , which means that you cannot receive calls, SMS etc. during this time.

Sony Ericsson states that with the latest firmware versions, a noticeable noise can be heard in the background when playing audio files. This background noise is more noticeable when the volume is reduced or a silent passage is being played. The noise appeared for the first time after a firmware update of the model, which was supposed to reduce acoustic distortion at higher volumes. Sony Ericsson's customer service has announced that there are no plans to solve the problem until further notice, as the problems to be solved by the firmware update had priority. The firmware update can be downloaded from the Sony Ericsson website.
