The Sophie-von-Brabant-Schule is a primary and middle school in Marburg in Upper Hesse .

history

The Sophie-von-Brabant-Schule emerged in 2012 from the Theodor-Heuss-Schule (location Willy-Mock-Strasse) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule (location Uferstrasse). Its namesake is Sophie von Brabant , the daughter of Elisabeth of Thuringia . Sophie von Brabant founded the Landgraviate of Hesse in Marburg in the 13th century .

architecture

The building at Uferstrasse 18 was built in the Neo-Renaissance style between 1904 and 1906 while Marburg was part of Prussia and was last used by the Friedrich Ebert School, which was merged into the Sophie von Brabant School. It is a listed building and is part of the Biegenviertel ensemble, which is also listed, together with the Martin Luther School and the Marburg Art Museum (see list of cultural monuments in Marburg ).

Special educational concept

The Sophie-von-Brabant-Schule combines the school types elementary school, secondary school and secondary school under one roof and has developed a special integrative school profile: Certification as a European school took place as early as 2000 . In 2009, the school trial "Open secondary and secondary school" was approved by the Hessian Ministry of Culture. It is also an all-day school and a school with a focus on music. There are three language intensive classes (one in primary and two in secondary). Another focus is professional orientation from grade 8.

Support association

Active parents' representatives support a wide range of school and extracurricular issues, such as the school library and instrumental lessons.
