Secondary level I.
The lower secondary level comprises the school levels of the middle education, which corresponds to the level 2 of the ISCED .
In Germany belong to the lower secondary level
- the secondary school ,
- the secondary school ,
- the main associated and junior high school (in the countries different names: Regional school , regular school , secondary school , middle school , high school , junior high school plus , Advanced Secondary School )
- the comprehensive school , the secondary school in Bremen , the district school in Hamburg (each up to and including grade 10)
- the grammar school (up to and including class 9 or class 10) and
- the special school (special school ).

In the Swiss education system , lower secondary level includes
- High school
- District school ,
- Secondary school and the
- Realschule ,
and in the education system in Liechtenstein
- the high school,
- the secondary school and
- the grammar school up to and including 10th grade.
After completing one of these schools, the upper secondary level follows in the secondary schools or vocational schools (Germany) or vocational schools (Austria, Switzerland).
