Sophie Gengembre Anderson
Sophie Gengembre Anderson (* 1823 in Paris , † March 10, 1903 in Falmouth , Cornwall ) was a Franco-British painter whose focus was on the representation of children and women, often in rural surroundings. Your work is assigned to the Pre-Raphaelites .
Life
She was the daughter of the Parisian architect Charles AC Gengembre and a mother from England. At an early age she studied portrait painting with Carl von Steuben in Paris.
When the revolution of 1848 broke out, she moved to Cincinnati , America, where she married the British artist Walter Anderson. In 1854 she returned to England. In 1855 she exhibited her works at the Royal Academy . She later lived on Capri for a long time .
