Sophus Jacobsen (born September 7, 1833 in Fredrikshald ; † May 13, 1912 in Düsseldorf ) was a Norwegian landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Jacobsen lived in Düsseldorf from 1853, where he was a student of Hans Fredrik Gude until 1856 and a member of the artists' association Malkasten from 1856 to 1912 . Various study trips took him to Norway and Italy as well as to different parts of Germany .

Some privately owned works were on view in May 1881 in the permanent exhibition of the Kunsthalle Bremen .

Some works have been auctioned at Christie's and Sotheby’s in recent years and have achieved prices that correspond to the equivalent of five-digit euros: Sunset in the forest in 1994 at Sotheby's, Grande with a view of Santa Maria Maggiore, Venice on October 30, 2002 at Christie's New York USD 31,070, San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice on September 13, 2006 at Christie's GBP 12,000.
