The Sor or Sôr ( Portuguese Ribeira de Sor ) is the right (northern) source river of the Sorraia . It flows through the Portalegre and Santarém districts in the Alentejo region of Portugal . The Sor rises north of the municipality of Alpalhão , then flows in a south-westerly direction and joins above the municipality of Couço with the Raia to form Sorraia.
In Ponte de Sor the Roman road crossed by Emerita Augusta ( Mérida ) to Olisipo ( Lisbon to Sor). About ten kilometers above Couço, the Sor is dammed up into a reservoir by the Montargil dam.
