Sorin status

Sorin Stati (* 1. February 1932 in Bucharest ; † 16th January 2008 in Paris ) was an Italian linguist , Rumänist , German scholar and linguist of Romanian origin.

life and work

Sorin Stati studied classical philology in Bucharest from 1950 to 1954. In 1967 he received his doctorate in general linguistics with the thesis Teorie şi metodă în sintaxă (Italian: Teoria e metodo nella sintassi , Bologna 1972) and became a professor. In 1971 he went to Italy, taught in Padua, Messina and Venice and acquired Italian citizenship in 1978. In 1975 he did his doctorate at the Sorbonne with Bernard Pottier with the thèse Le système sémantique des adjectifs dans la langue roumaine (published ud T. La Sémantique des adjectifs. Essai d'analysis componentielle appliquée aux langues romanes , Paris 1979). From 1981 he was full professor of general linguistics at the University of Bologna .

Stati was a founding member and President of the IADA (International Association for Dialogue Analysis), as well as Vice-President of the SILF (Société Internationale de Linguistique Fonctionnelle). Since 1993 he has been an honorary member of the Romanian Academy , which had awarded him the Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Prize in 1956.
