The river-seagoing ships of the series Sormovskiy -, sometimes also Project No. 614 , are river and canal sailing coasters.

history

The series was produced from 1968 to the beginning of the 1990s. The basic type has the shipyard Krasnoye Sormovo in Gorkiy prepared built from 1968 to 1986 about 40 vessels of the type. In the 1970s and 1980s, a number of Sormovskiys were built at two Russian and Bulgarian shipyards. The second largest part of the series provided the shipyard Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo, Portugal Viana do Castelo from. With around 60 units built, the type is one of the most successful designs of its kind. The ships were distributed among the following shipping companies: Western River Shipping Company in Kaliningrad , the White Sea & Onega River Shipping Company and the North-Western River Shipping Company in St Petersburg , the Northern River Shipping Company in Arkhangelsk , the United Volga River Shipping Company in Astrakhan , the Volga-Don River Shipping Company in Taganrog , and the Amur River Shipping Company in Nikolayevsk am Amur .

The individual ships differ, depending on the variant, due to minor differences in the size of the ship, the equipment with different engine types and other special features with which they were tailored to the respective application. The Portugal buildings (see picture in the info box) have slightly larger dimensions than the basic design. The naming was simple, all ships were named Sormovskiy , followed by a number.

The ships are mainly used on combined inland and coastal services on short trips. In Northern Europe, the Sormovskiys were mostly used in the Baltic Sea area, but sometimes also as far as the North Sea ports . The use was restricted by the limitation to trips with lower wind strengths and certain maximum distances to the coast. In the 1970s to 1990s in particular, in some North Sea estuaries, when the weather was bad, this often led to larger fleets of wind boats of this type.

technology

The ships in the series are powered by two 4- stroke diesel engines . Various engine models from the manufacturer VEB Schwermaschinenbau "Karl Liebknecht" were installed in the series. The early ships of the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard were each equipped with two copies of the SKL type 6NVD48A-2U with a total of 971 kW, the later copies from Portugal each received two enhanced SKL engines of the same type with an output of 1280 kW.

The hulls were assembled in sectional construction. The ships have fixed superstructures arranged far aft without a lifting bridge. The ships have four holds with around 4300 m 3 of ball space (Portugal structures: 4700 m 3 ) and four hatches . The ships were delivered without loading gear .
